The first type of template is about expressing gratitude towards those who have served. These email templates don’t have a sales angle; you have other templates for that.

You could also expound on how significant the true meaning of Memorial Day is. There are plenty of directions to take your heartfelt Memorial Day email templates. Check out the Memorial Day email templates below to see what I mean.

Design Tips for a Beautiful Memorial Day Email Campaign

Of course, Memorial Day email templates aren’t purely about the copy. You also need eye-catching visuals to get your audience to open your emails all weekend (after all, only 21% of themed emails are sent on Memorial Day Monday).

I’ll share some design tips geared toward increasing your email performance. Oh, and I’ll include some visual examples to help in your planning and ideation.

Use of patriotic colors

Memorial Day is all about the red, white, and blue. Unlike Independence Day or Labor Day, Memorial Day has the distinction of using those colors first on the calendar.

Look at this email from CBD snack and adaptogen brand NatureBox to see what I mean.

That’s right, it’s full of patriotic imagery. The email background is two shades of stately blue. There are strawberries (for red) and blueberries (for blue) all around the background. The headline text is in white. Then, there’s also a small American flag above the copy.

That said, the design is rather subtle. The American flag is not the most important feature of the image, yet it still gets the patriotic feel across.

If you’d rather be more overt, try creating a Memorial Day email template like this one from HP.

You can’t confuse the intention behind this email. It’s patriotic all the way!

Incorporate patriotic symbols and imagery

You can if you want to go even heavier on the Memorial Day imagery! You just need a few bald eagles with your American flag, and voila. That’s about as Memorial Day-centric as an email can get.

Main Street Creamery sent the above email to inform its audience that it would serve cold refreshments on Memorial Day. The background of the email features a close-up of the American flag. Then, there’s that large image of a majestic eagle.

You can also crank down the overtness and go for a more subtle but still effective Memorial Day email template.

For example, this email from retailer Jane features a hot dog and a punny headline. Hot dogs and apple pie are as American as it gets. A small American flag is in the image, but it’s mostly about that tasty-looking hot dog. Sorry if you’re hungry now.

Use whitespace

Whitespace is a pillar of good email design. It’s the intentional use of empty space around your emails. Despite the name, it doesn’t always have to be white. Your whitespace could be red or blue in your Memorial Day email template.

Spacing apart the elements makes your emails more readable. People only spend 10 to 20 seconds reading an email, so if yours doesn’t catch their eye then you’re in trouble.

Ensure mobile responsiveness

Another critical element of your Memorial Day email templates is mobile optimization. Most of your audience today will use their phones, tablets, or other mobile devices to access their email inboxes, not their desktop or laptop computers.

If your email isn’t responsive to mobile users, you can say goodbye to 90+ percent of your audience. The email won’t load cleanly for them, it might be slow, and the design will look clunky.

This blatant disregard for the pillars of email design means your business email address will likely get sent to the spam folder. You could also lose subscribers.

A mobile-friendly email has:

  • Compressed images
  • Whitespace
  • A loading time of up to eight seconds
  • Alt text
  • No navigation bars
  • CTAs above the fold
  • A single-column design
  • A subject line that doesn’t exceed 60 characters

The best way to ensure your Memorial Day email template is ready to go live is to use split testing first.

Subject Line Ideas to Improve Open Rates

Writing the subject line of an email is no easy feat. While the Memorial Day email templates I shared earlier have subject lines attached, you might need something more specific.

Don’t you worry. You know I’ve got you covered. Here are some of the most effective subject lines to use with your Memorial Day emails, whether you’re being reflective, promotional, or reminding your audience of a sale.

Catchy Call-to-Action (CTA) Phrases

Another area you might struggle with is writing your call to action or CTA. A CTA must only be a few words, whether used as a button or a link.

The brevity of the CTA is what gets people tripped up. Let me provide some pointers before I share my list.

First, the anchor text of your CTA needs to be clear so your audience knows what happens when they click your link. Second, always test your CTA before your emails go live.

Here are some CTAs to get you started. They pair well with the Memorial Day email templates I’ve shared:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is the best time to send Memorial Day emails?

Send your first Memorial Day emails to your audience midweek before the holiday weekend. Most people don’t check their inboxes regularly on a holiday weekend, especially in the summer. Grabbing their attention that early will help you engage with them.

2. How can I personalize my Memorial Day email templates effectively?

Begin with audience segmentation. Use your customers’ pain points and recent purchases to tailor your emails to their needs. That will elevate your sales.

3. What are the most important metrics for Memorial Day campaigns?

You must keep an eye on your email open and click-through rates. Also, track your conversions, sales, and customer retention rates.

4. How do I make my Memorial Day emails stand out?

You should add branding to your Memorial Day emails to make them uniquely you. Pay special attention to the subject line, writing something catchy and compelling.

5. What common mistakes should be avoided in Memorial Day email campaigns?

Sending your emails too early is one of the biggest gaffes. People are busy leading to Memorial Day, so sending your emails a week before can mean you are forgotten. In that same vein, waiting until Memorial Day weekend begins to drop your emails is another mistake. You’re sending your emails too late.

6. How can I leverage social media alongside my email campaigns?

Social media can help you better understand your audience segments. You can also use social platforms to keep your audience informed and engaged between your latest emails.

7. What are the latest trends in Memorial Day email marketing for 2024?

Mobile optimization is always an email trend these days. AI is becoming increasingly popular for producing and scheduling email sending. That might make your life easier this Memorial Day.

8. How can I create a sense of urgency in my Memorial Day emails?

Watch your language. The words you use can convey that urgency. Use the occasion uppercase word.

9. What tools are best for designing Memorial Day email templates?

You have many email marketing tools, from Mailchimp to HubSpot and EngageBay. Customers love EngageBay’s email marketing templates for their appeal, affordability, and ease of use.

10. How do I handle customer complaints or issues via email?

Promptness is the key here. You might not be able to respond right away on a holiday weekend, but during regular business hours, you should send replies as fast as possible.
