This November 29th, Black Friday will grip the nation. The post-Thanksgiving shopping occasion is expected to rake in $10 billion in sales this year, putting Black Friday on track to clear $12.3 billion by 2028. If you want a piece of the pie for your business, you need the right Black Friday email templates.
After all, you can expect that every one of your competitors will attempt to capitalize on this capitalistic holiday. It’s one of the best opportunities for sales throughout the holiday season and a surefire way to end the year on a high financial note.
What will make your emails stand out boils down to two things. One is email design, and the second is timing.
In this blog post, we will reveal the best Black Friday email templates you can ask for, complete with pointers on designing your own. I’ll also share guidance on when to send Black Friday marketing messages to grab your audience and win their sale.
Table of Contents
Black Friday Email Template Types
Okay, so are you ready to get into it?
First, I want to discuss the templates you can rely on as you build your Black Friday email marketing campaign. You may use only one type of template or mix to connect meaningfully with your leads and customers.
Besides explaining each type of template and tips on using it, I’ll share a handful of email templates to replicate.
Flash sales
Sure, announcing your Black Friday deal well in advance is the standard way. But do you know what’s more fun? A flash sale.
You can ensure it will be all eyes on you by announcing a sudden sale as Black Friday begins. Accompanying your announcement should be high-value deals your audience can’t find elsewhere.
You could reduce the prices on some stock by up to 50%, or you could offer free shipping. You could do a buy-one, get-one-free deal or do whatever will achieve business goals without costing your company too much in profits.
I also love an excellent doorbuster this time of year, especially if the Black Friday sale is in-store.
Okay, so what kinds of Black Friday email templates help you best announce and drive the urgency of a flash sale? Here’s an overview.

Post-Black Friday
Black Friday sure does come and go in a flash, doesn’t it? And although the leftovers have been heated and enjoyed by now and the pumpkin pie is just about gone, there’s still more fun to look forward to.
You see, there’s also Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. If you plan on continuing the deals all weekend long and into the next week, you will need a different breed of Black Friday email templates.
You will end up emailing your audience about daily, as once one sale ends, you will announce the next. However, this kind of email frequency isn’t one you’ll keep up with often.

Black Friday Email Design Tips
Did you know that, on average, 116.5 million emails go out on Black Friday? I’m mentioning that to underscore the importance of a well-designed Black Friday email campaign.
Copy isn’t everything, even if it is a very important element of your marketing strategy. You also need appealing visuals that will keep your readers on the page for longer so you can generate clicks and conversions.
Here are some of my top design tips to accompany the above Black Friday email templates. I’m sure you’ll learn a new strategy to augment your campaign!
Use bold, high-contrast colors
If you had to guess what color most Black Friday emails are, what would you answer? Well, if you said black, you’re correct.
And while I think that black makes an excellent backdrop for your emails, since it goes with everything, it’s predictable. I can’t tell you how many of your competitors will use black-based emails for their Black Friday promotions and deals.
If you do the same, good luck standing out. It’s a lot harder to differentiate your emails from anyone else’s.
I recommend taking a different approach with your Black Friday email templates. Try using high-contrast and bold colors such as yellow or red. You can combine them with black if you must.
The contrasting colors do an awesome job of guiding the eye exactly where you want it to be.
For example, take a look at this email.
It’s impossible to miss the red elements on the page. Your audience will immediately find your messages more appealing and eager to engage.
And here’s another email that uses yellow. You can see that only the CTA button has a contrasting color, but given the rather simple use of color elsewhere, the CTA stands out.
Add attention-grabbing, urgent graphics
Most Black Friday emails are simple, using a snazzy background or a few high-contrast colors to achieve visual interest. They rely on oversized text and well-placed CTA buttons to attract the reader’s attention and increase clicks. Here’s an example of an attention-grabbing Black Friday email:
It goes a bit more graphics-heavy than most Black Friday email templates, featuring an excited woman in a dress and screaming happily.
The email copy relates to the image, saying, “We all scream for 50% off Black Friday!” And to make it related, the woman is wearing black.
I also like how this email features a pink brick background. It’s a contrasting color (and black and pink always look great together) that you wouldn’t expect to see.

Implement clear and concise messaging
A Black Friday email is not an opportunity for flowery prose or paragraphs of information. People want to know what the sale is, what they can save, what’s discounted, and for how long. That’s about it.
There’s no need to make your email excessively long, as you can lose your audience by meandering. You can also prevent them from shopping if they don’t have the information they need front and center.
Ensure mobile optimization
With more than 1.7 billion people checking their emails on their mobile devices, your Black Friday email templates must have mobile optimization. If you need a refresher, here’s how to do that:
- Keep your subject lines within 60 characters (I’ll share my favorite Black Friday subject lines in the next section).
- Segment your email list according to criteria like website behavior, loyalty, and spending limits.
- Add helpful, related links.
- Include calls to action (I’ll also discuss these later).
- Personalize your email content, recommending products based on a shopper’s browsing and purchasing history.
- Add unsubscribe links to control the number of spam requests.
- Ensure your emails load quickly.
- Use A/B testing.
Design with whitespace in mind
Producing the perfect email template doesn’t have to be challenging. The key to a successful visual design is whitespace. This empty space between your email elements makes images stand out, and CTA buttons look more apparent.
Customers can read your email without feeling like everything is cluttered. Your email optimization will also benefit.

Calls to Action (CTA)
You’ve already assembled most of your Black Friday email templates but aren’t quite finished yet. Every good email needs a call to action or CTA, preferably a button.
The copy is one small part of CTA success. If your button isn’t placed in the right spot in your email or is the wrong color, shape, or size, it won’t convert.
I recommend A/B testing to nail all the above elements. For everything else, you can borrow these CTAs courtesy of EngageBay. Feel free to tweak them to suit your marketing message.
