Woohoo! Cinco de Mayo is on the horizon, which means embracing one’s Mexican heritage, eating delicious food, and enjoying the start of beautiful spring weather. Get your audience into a festive mood with Cinco de Mayo email templates.
Of course, it’s not all fun and games. The holiday, acknowledged on May 5th, commemorates when Mexico defeated the Second French Empire in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It sounds like a nice story, but it’s bittersweet.
Its lead general, Ignacio Zaragoza, perished a few months after the battle. Also, the French forces came back with even larger numbers and took over Mexico City following the Second Battle of Puebla.
While Cinco de Mayo is largely a festive holiday, even for those who aren’t Mexican, it does have its historical side. The email templates and examples in this blog post will touch on all elements of this special May holiday so you can connect more effectively with your audience.

Promotional offers
Many businesses use Cinco de Mayo as a sales opportunity, and why not? It’s a chance to strengthen your sales in the second quarter, which companies of all sizes can appreciate.
By early May, Easter feels like it was eons ago (especially if it occurred in late March), and Memorial Day is still weeks away. A Cinco de Mayo sale is exactly what your business needs to get in front of your audience and tantalize them to spend money.
If your company specializes in any type of Mexican goods, you can use this opportunity to shine the spotlight on them and sell them at a discounted rate. Even if your goods aren’t culturally focused on this holiday, a generalized sale is still fine.
Here’s what I recommend: Announce your sale early, around the end of April, unless it’s a flash sale. For a flash sale, you can announce it on the day it starts. Be sure to send one or two reminder emails to boost sales.
Okay, so what kinds of sales-based Cinco de Mayo email templates should you send? Take a look at these options. And, of course, feel free to tweak any to suit your business.

Event invitations
It’s a Cinco de Mayo celebration! Whether you’re hosting a fiesta, a special dinner, an ice cream social, or anything in between, the right Cinco de Mayo email templates can take your messages to the next level. You should see a lot of RSVPs.
Just as you would when announcing a sale, you should send your audience an event invite email early. People make plans as Cinco de Mayo draws nearer, and you would hate for most of your audience to be already busy when you email them.
Another consideration is when Cinco de Mayo falls. The 5th of May varies on the calendar every year. People will be freer the later in the week the occasion is. If it’s on a Monday or Tuesday, you might consider pushing back your celebration until Thursday or Friday, even if it’s no longer May 5th.
Are you ready to reach out to your audience? Here are some Cinco de Mayo email templates.

If your brand is steeped in Mexican heritage, what better way to share that knowledge with others than through the power of email? You can discuss the true history of Cinco de Mayo or share recipes for making Mexican meals at home (the restaurants are always jam-packed on May 5th anyway).
Perhaps you can explain the cultural symbols of Mexican heritage or share native music. Whichever way you want to express your Mexican heritage proudly, I’ve got a matching Cinco de Mayo email template to try.

Subject: The History Behind Cinco de Mayo
Hi [Recipient’s Name],
Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today, we celebrate a significant event in Mexican history—the Battle of Puebla. Here are some historical insights to enrich your celebration.
Historical Highlights:
- The Battle: On May 5, 1862, a small Mexican force led by General Ignacio Zaragoza successfully defended the city of Puebla against a larger French army.
- Significance: This victory boosted the morale of the Mexican people and became a symbol of resistance and patriotism.
- Legacy: Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more widely in the United States than in Mexico, where it has become a day to honor Mexican culture and heritage.
We hope you enjoyed learning about the history of Cinco de Mayo and find inspiration in this story of courage and resilience.
Best wishes,

- Tamales: These steamed corn dough packets filled with meats, cheeses, or chilies are a staple in Mexican cuisine.

- Churros: A sweet treat, these fried dough pastries are perfect for dessert.
Try making these dishes at home or enjoy them at your local Mexican restaurant. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with these flavorful foods that represent the heart of Mexican culinary tradition.

- Piñatas: Often filled with candy and small toys, piñatas are a fun and interactive part of Mexican celebrations.
- Sombreros: These wide-brimmed hats are a recognizable part of Mexican culture, often worn during festivals and parades.
Incorporate these symbols into your Cinco de Mayo celebration to honor and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Mexico.

Cinco de Mayo Email Design Tips
Those were some great Cinco de Mayo email templates, right? But that just takes care of the text-based portion of your emails. You need visuals and a clear layout for your Cinco de Mayo campaign to perform well.
That’s why I thought I’d share my favorite design pointers for creating captivating holiday emails that convert.
Use festive, bright, cultural colors
Like many holidays, Cinco de Mayo has its widely recognized color scheme. It’s the shades of the Mexican flag: white, green, and red.
Each color has its own specific meaning tied to the original purpose of Cinco de Mayo. For example, green represents the hope of the fighters, white is for their purity and unity, and red is for the spilled blood of those on the Mexican forces who were lost that fateful day.
Here’s an excellent example of an email that uses the colors of the Mexican flag combined with a nice gold color. The email is an eye-catcher.
And while two of the three colors contrast and should thus add visual interest to your emails, guess what? You can also experiment with other related colors that are brighter and even more attention-grabbing for your Cinco de Mayo emails.
Shades like neon green, fuchsia, golden yellow, and teal blue are also reminiscent of this Mexican holiday. They’re a testament to Cinco de Mayo as it’s celebrated today, boldly and colorfully.
Below is an example of how to use an explosion of colors in your email marketing for Cinco de Mayo.
The colors meld beautifully, creating a festive, celebratory atmosphere that makes you want to be part of the fun.
Include cultural symbols
There are many Cinco de Mayo symbols you can use in your email, perhaps only one at a time or even all at once.
For example, try the classic piñata, which is synonymous with party time. You don’t have to be a kid to appreciate the vibrant quality and fun of a piñata.
I quite like this email from KidPass, a resource for finding children’s activities. The animated celebratory email is very simple, featuring a bobbing, colorful piñata and a sales announcement of 10 Activity Credits for $5.
Of course, a sombrero is always appropriate in a Cinco de Mayo email. I also quite like the use of musical instruments, from guitars to maracas. The key to using any of this cultural imagery is to be respectful.
Add high-quality images of food and celebrations
Do you want to get mouths watering to drive up the number of people who RSVP to your Cinco de Mayo event or celebration? There’s an easy way to do that: use high-quality images of food and drink.
I mean, take a look at this email:
Or this one:
Are you hungry yet, or is it just me? I mean, how can you not be after looking at these emails? The high-quality, largescale images of festive food and drinks makes you want to get to a Cinco de Mayo celebration ASAP.
You can create the same effect by showing a group of people celebrating together and having a great time. You’ll activate a customer’s sense of FOMO. They want to be part of that group and enjoy themselves.
Don’t forget whitespace
As the examples of Cinco de Mayo email templates have shown you, your campaigns should not have a shortage of colorful elements. However, they must be balanced by whitespace.
What is whitespace? It’s a design concept that uses background space to balance the rest of the elements in the layout.
Despite its name, it isn’t always white. Just scroll up and look at the email examples again. You can detect whitespace in them all.
Without it, your emails can look cluttered, messy, and—dare I say it—spammy. You have to let the images, headers, footers, headlines, paragraphs, and CTAs get space from one another.
Optimize for mobile
You’re almost ready to test your Cinco de Mayo emails, but before you do, optimize them for mobile first. Mobile email use is expected to hit 4.481 billion this year, which has steadily increased yearly and will continue to do so into 2025.
You have to get your emails mobile-optimized. That means compressing your images, creating a mobile-friendly layout, testing your font size, using a single-column layout, and using responsive web design.

Not to spook you during such a festive occasion, but email subject lines matter a lot. You could have a perfect Cinco de Mayo email template and layout ready to go, but if the subject line is a stinker, your email marketing campaign will underperform.

Calls to Action (CTA) for Cinco de Mayo
Do you know what your Cinco de Mayo email templates need? That’s right, it’s a nice call to action or CTA. Whether you choose a button or text form, the point of a CTA is to encourage the reader to do something.
In your case, maybe they’ll stick around and learn more about Cinco de Mayo through your website. Perhaps they’ll shop your sale. They could RSVP for your big Cinco de Mayo celebration.
A CTA needs to be concise and catchy. The anchor text must also be clear. You can’t write “Click here” because that tells the reader nothing. Instead, you could use a CTA that reads, “Click here to check out our sale.”
Remember to test your CTAs before your holiday emails go live. Everything from the placement to the copy, shape, size, and color can influence clicks.
Keeping that in mind, here are some Cinco de Mayo-centric CTAs to utilize, courtesy of EngageBay:
