Telephony refers to the technology and systems used for transmitting voice communications over long distances, traditionally through telephone networks. In modern contexts, telephony includes both traditional analog systems (landlines) and digital systems (such as VoIP—Voice over Internet Protocol), which allow voice communication over the Internet.
Key components of telephony include:
Traditional Telephone Networks: Older systems that use circuit sending voice over dedicated analog telephone lines.
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol): Voice telephony across data networks that provides the possibility of the call in the Internet space and cheaper call rates.
Mobile Telephony: The use of mobile networks to make voice calls from cell phones or other wireless devices.
Cloud Telephony: A cloud-based digital telephony service that provides businesses the ability to handle calls without hardware not software phone lines of systems.
Immediate Communication: Telephony offers voice interconnectivity in real-time, which is vital for people & organizations.
Global Reach: With VoIP and other digital telephony systems, businesses can easily connect with clients and partners globally without high costs.
Cost-Effective: Current telephony solutions such as VoIP are comparatively cheaper than traditional phone lines, particularly in terms of communication cost for long-distance/international communication.
Scalability: Those using cloud telephony services can scale as per the business's needs by altering and adjusting the lines or features.
Integrated Solutions: This functionality becomes as important as telephony systems, CRM platforms, and other business tools can be integrated.
